Sonoma County Library: Local History The Sonoma County Library's local history and genealogy materials are housed in the Annex, a building located directly behind the Central Santa Rosa Library. They include deeds, mortgages, wills and probate records, assessments of property, voter registrations, oaths of office, surveys, maps, corporation records, business licenses, obituaries, newspapers, census records and collections of photographs.

Sonoma State University: Jean and Charles Schulz Information Center The Jean and Charles Schulz Information Center is located on the Sonoma State University campus in Rohnert Park. This library has a searchable on-line catalog (called "Snoopy") and offers myriad resources for local historical research. |

Northwest Pacific Railroad Historical Society The Northwestern Pacific Railroad Historical Society was founded over fifteen years ago. It is dedicated to preserving the rich and colorful heritage of Redwood Empire railroading through acquisition, preservation and display efforts as well as through gathering oral histories of people who have contributed to the history of this region.

Petaluma Adobe State Historic Park The Petaluma Adobe is preserved in Petaluma's Adobe State Historic Park. It is one of the oldest preserved buildings in Northern California and was by all accounts the largest and richest privately owned Mexican estates north of San Francisco Bay and one of the most important in Alta California.

heritage of the Valley of the Moon. Exhibits are in the Sonoma City Hall
and the Sonoma Community Center. |

Sonoma County Genealogical Society The Sonoma County Genealogical Society was founded in 1967. It provides leadership and education through general meetings, workshops, a newsletter, special interest groups, library assistance, and research projects which document Sonoma County records.

The Jesse Peter Museum houses collections of ethnographic art from throughout the Americas and parts of Africa, Asia, and the Pacific. Permanent exhibits include the following: Pomo Roundhouse Model and Basketry, Pomo Ceremonialism, Southern California, Navajo (Diné), Plains and Plateau, Southwest Jewelry, Klamath River Area House Model,Hopi Pueblo Model with Kachina Dolls, and Pueblo Pottery. There are also a number of rotating, temporary exhibits.

The Pacific Coast Air Museum, located near the Sonoma County Airport, was established to promote the acquisition, restoration, safe operation and display of historical aircraft, and also to promote local aviation history and foster interest in general aviation and aviation history.

The Petaluma Museum exhibits Petaluma poultry, dairy, and Miwok Indian history artifacts and records dating from the 1850s. Its research library collection includes books, early maps and files that can assist with historical, genealogical, and architectural research for Petaluma and the surrounding area.

Founded in 1985, the Sonoma County Museum provides cultural experiences for the enrichment, enjoyment and education of Sonoma County residents and visitors through the preservation of collections and the presentation of exhibitions and programs. It also hosts a History Outreach Program offering in-class presentations related to the history of Sonoma County.

The West County Museum is Sebastopol. Museum exhibits are changed 2 to 3 times a year and focus on west Sonoma County history. Past exhibits have explored movies filmed in Sonoma County, historical toys, eclectic collections from the community, the World War II experience on the home front, the apple industry and apple festivals and fairs, and early lighting devices. |
